Integration of automatic passenger counting system (APC) on eBuses in Belgrade

At the end of the 2016. Novatronic successfully tested and put into practice our first Linux on-board computer (OBC) on five Chariot Motors electro buses (eBUS) in Serbia’s capital Belgrade. OBC is supporting all top communication interfaces used by industry (Ethernet, CAN, GPRS/3G, Wi-Fi, USB, serial) along with numerous possibilities in terms of control and integration with various on-board systems. In this particular project OBC is used to control automatic passenger counting system (APC), based on Irma Matrix sensors, produced by German vendor Iris GmbH, whose authorized and exclusive distributor for Serbian market is Novatronic.

OBC is collecting data from the sensors (mounted above every bus door) about passenger boarding and alighting on every station along the route via CAN communication interface, at the same time assigning GPS coordinates and real time to every reading, with complete data about lines, destinations and stations obtained from Novatronic’s passenger information system (PIS).

Complete data is periodically uploaded to assigned FTP server via GPRS/3G communication interface, providing users (transport companies and public transport authorities) with the detailed information about vehicle motion and real time passenger counting, thus enabling various traffic analysis in order to optimize the fleet.
